To all the readers who've chosen to spend time with Jackie, Garrett & Charlie, and to those who might just be thinking about it... Thank you.
My Rogues Shifter Series books have been bundled and from 1/15 - 2/15, I'm discounting all three sets: Books 1-3, Books 4-6 and Books 7-9. (See buttons below) I'm busy working on ideas for Book 10 - In Demand, and also considering a novella or two featuring Isaiah's early life as well as continuing his story along the same timeline as Jackie's. In other words, you'd find out how he came to be with Lord Kennet and what he was doing when he wasn't with Jackie or in later books, with Charlie. The working title is Demon Rogue. Also, I must apologize. My writing has slowed, mostly due to depression and anxiety linked to the stark isolation I've experienced during Covid. I'll be doing my best this year writing as Gayle Parness and also under my Marie Booth pen name. I thank you again with all my heart for your patience and understanding. Comments are always most appreciated. Gayle/Marie

Dear Rogues and Readers, Jackie's latest story is turning out to be another hair pulling adventure, but then we know she can handle whatever is thrown her way, right? Charlie too, right? Even war? In At Risk war is not only coming, it's arrived. War between magical creatures doesn't mean magical answers will always be available to save someone in the nick of time. It doesn't mean everyone will walk away unscathed. But Jackie, Garrett and Charlie have never given in to despair, even in the bleakest of times. That won't change. Hope makes them stronger. Trust and love and friendship can heal. The Cuvier Clan will go on, you have my promise. That's it for now. Back to writing. She's been a guest in Sasha's home for the last few months, and is finally beginning to feel comfortable in this new world—finding herself drawn to the gentle warrior, but not worthy to stand at his side. Sasha, a vampire with a violent past, is smitten by this sweetly elegant female, but has demons of his own to dispel. When Elle invites him to a magical celebration, he jumps at the chance to spend time with her. But can they heal each other on the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year? Gayle here. Thanks for dropping by. Here's a list of things happening in November that will keep me very busy. #1 We have lots of leftover candy to eat. (How many snack-sized snickers did I already eat today? Well, I guess I could have just one more, right?) #2 We have some local elections coming up. Better check the line up. #3 There are invitations to Thanksgiving dinners to accept or ignore. #4 OR there is a huge Thanksgiving feast to plan. (Haven't decided yet) #5 There are boxes of old Christmas decorations and ornaments to sort through. #6 There are sales and more sales and even more sales to peruse. (To be honest, I shop online. Saves my feet and causes a lot less stress.) #7 There are books coming out by some of my favorite authors. Yaaaay! Now all I have to do is find time to read them. #8 There's the what to do with the leftover turkey conundrum. Turkey omelets? #9 There's the first time we light the fireplace. Don't you love that night? (I live in Northern California. It hasn't gotten cold yet.) #10 There's National Novel Writing Month, where my writer friends and I try our best to write 50,000 words in one month while taking care of everything else on this list as well as our daily lives. #11 And finally there are the three releases I have in November - Winter Solstice Wishes, Falling Out and the audiobook version of Rebirth - which I will celebrate by curling up with a good book, a glass of wine, a turkey omelet and a snack-sized Snickers bar in front of the first fire of the season. I wish you all a very happy and healthy November. :0)
I'll be attending my second RWA convention this July in New York City. If you'll be at the literary signing on Thursday, July 23 , getting books signed by your favorite romance authors, leave me a message here or on Facebook or twitter. Maybe we can meet up.
This is the one event at the conference that is open to the public. It's free, but you have to buy the books there. You can't bring your own books and ask the author to autograph them. This is a signing for charity and the books are full price. Last year I waited in line to get Nalini Singh and Kristen Callihan to autograph books for me. I was a total fangeek. People...Nora Roberts is there along with a hundred other famous romance writers. When the link is up for who will be signing, I'll put it up here. If you're in the area, please come. It's for a really good cause. The literacy signing will be at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square, NYC on July 23rd from 5:30 - 7:30 pm and is open to the public. Check out the romance authors who'll be signing this year: https://www.rwa.org/literacy This year has been a momentous one for me on a very personal level. I've settled into a new home, returning to California, the state of my childhood, but also leaving behind friends and family who mean the world to me.
It's been scary. It's been amazing. It took courage that I wasn't sure I had. And humor. Lots of humor. Sometimes when you dig deep it makes you laugh. In the midst of this chaos I reconnected on Facebook with a friend from Jr. High School. We got together and were 14 again. Sweet. The one thing I've learned is that change takes time. You can't rush friendships or family relationships. They flow organically, dependent on the energy one expends. And I have expended plenty of energy. So far I've joined an amazing Zumba class, a more amazing romance writers group, an opera company, (on the tech end), and a church choir, (because I love to sing.) These are all places where new friendships might incubate, then flower. Who knows? I'm willing to wait. What remains constant is my love of writing, specifically the telling of Jackie and Garrett's story. Although book seven will temporarily be the final one in their tale, they will be recurring characters in Charlie's story. I might continue their saga after I finish Charlie's. It's too far ahead to say for sure, but then they have a long future ahead of them. In book seven, Jackie's faced with a gut wrenching decision. Threatened by a powerful foe, will she send her teenaged child somewhere truly safe, possibly ruining the alliance she and Garrett have worked so hard to build? Or will she send him with her allies where he could still be in danger? Or will she comply with the demands of her enemy? If you've read the books, I think you know what Jackie decides. Book seven is written in four points of view! It's crazy, but it keeps me on my toes. It will be out by November, 2013. If you'd be interested in an ARC ebook let me know on the contact form why you'd like one. I'll pick ten readers and send it out before the release date. Thanks and happy reading! Gayle I'm so excited! Torn Apart , book six in the Rogues Shifter Series, should be on sale by the end of May. My cover designer, Tatiana, has finished the cover. Awesome, right? I'm polishing my end and can't wait to share Jackie and Garrett's continuing story with all of you who enjoy following it. In Torn Apart, Jackie and Garrett's son Charlie is five years old and already showing signs of his coming powers. When I began to write this book, I made the decision to skip ahead, something I'd avoided so far in the series. (The first five books take place within five months of the beginning of Rebirth.) The main reason I skipped five years was because, having raised two kids of my own, I felt that a five year old is a more interesting age to explore, already showing signs of becoming an independent individual...more so than an infant or a toddler. I want you, as readers, to get a feel for who this child is - particularly because I intend to write a spinoff series beginning when Charlie is seventeen...the same age as Jackie when I started to write the books. (Okay she was 16...but turned 17 two days later) Charlie's life won't be an easy one. An incredible prophesy has been delivered by Sinlae regarding his future and that he plays an instrumental part in the war, helping to save the fae and his shifter community. Just think for a minute about how it would be for a young man to grow up under that pressure. Makes for an interesting spinoff in my humble opinion. I hope you think so too. Of course the emphasis is mostly on Jackie in Torn Apart. She spends quite a lot of time in the Demon Realm where I'm exploring her ability to use both her demon and shifter magic together to come up with something unique. But then Jackie has always been unique, marching to her own drumbeat throughout the series. You'll have a chance to really get to know Isaiah and some of the creatures who inhabit his world. I had a lot of fun writing dialogue between Isaiah and Jackie, since both of them are wise-asses. The only difference is that now they're on his turf where Isaiah's true colors emerge. I intend to write book seven in the Rogues Shifter Series before I write the first book of Charlie's series. It's already plotted out, and I can tell you now that it's going to be a rough one for our girl. Please let me know how you feel about this book or any of the other books in the series. I love to get your input. :0) |
